CrossFit "Study" Blog

http://zfitblog.wordpress.com/ (WFS)

This is my new blog I have started. I am currently taking part in a MCCS study in the Marine Corps of the effectiveness of CrossFit. I started this to have a little bit of a record of how it goes, as well as throw my .02 in on different fitness topics.

I hope that there are some out there who might be interested in this and post some comments if you see something you like.

Take care.

Paul

Paul - please keep us informed and if you could provide information about the source of the study? Like the study's goals, methodology, who is monitoring, etc., I would be very interested.

Re: CrossFit "Study" Blog

MCCS is allowing this study to take place? A few months ago I got a strongly worded "cease and desist" email from a full-bird colonel acting on behalf of MCCS after I advertised free intro to CF classes...apparently CF, being a commercial program that's in direct competition with services already offered by MCCS, isn't authorized aboard MCRD San Diego.

My hopes are up a little after seeing the CMC's MARADMIN from a few months back that directed all bases to build functional fitness centers...if we get one that's anything like what the CO up at Edson Range pulled off I'll be happy. He was able to double up and get equipment from Operation Phoenix and MCCS and had a nice little covered area built for it next to the main 31 Area gym.

Re: CrossFit "Study" Blog

Dale and all,

Before we started we did bloodwork, BF, Cholestoral, etc. I'm going to try and get this data so I can post it up (We will do this once more once we complete in December.)

I am still not a big fan of MCCS but this was the ONLY way to do CrossFit out here in Okinawa. They are basically keeping all of their good gear (rowers, bumpers, boxes, kettlebells) locked away and out of the gym, and it is only available to people in this program.

I will keep everyone posted on the blog.

Re: CrossFit "Study" Blog

I just did a six week assessment on the program and the results are phenomenal. We did an initial fitness profile and then today did our midway one. 6 more weeks left, and the data already looks great.

http://zfitblog.wordpress.com (WFS) for the numbers.

Re: CrossFit "Study" Blog

What's the sample size, and do you have numbers for the CF groups vs. the "control" groups, or whatever you're calling the MCCS functional fitness and standard USMC PT groups? Not that I'm questioning your results, but I know that one person's progress doesn't mean much statistically.

Re: CrossFit "Study" Blog

Ok, so you won't have access to the rest of the data til the study is over then?

I will try to get the other data, but can't promise I will be able to get it.
