Re: The young'uns passing you too?.. [masters rant]

You guys think you're feelin' the breeze as the children blow past you now? Just wait!

I'm 59, a former triathlete.

I completely expected and accept that the 20- and 30-something "regulars" at my box leave me in the dust on every single WOD.

But I was abruptly brought up short just this past week by a 4 x 400m sprint row.

I had introduced myself to the soft-looking woman in her 20s on the rower next to me. She told me she had just completed the On-ramp classes. It was her very first WOD, and she'd never in her life used a rower.

Her splits were shorter than mine by a couple of seconds.

It was a shock, I tell you.

Susan

Ok.... Feeling a bit better after Saturdays eight hour Oly lift seminar with Daniel Camargo....

All of the young blood were just as passed out comatose by four in the afternoon as I was.... Actually I was still going strong as I PRed in snatch earlier in the day....(4 hours of snatch, lunch break, four hours of C&J) and I listened to coach camargo and didn't try to PR on C&J but rather stick to 60-70% and really get technical and build some muscle memory....

Most we're passed out,or dropping the bar on their heads ( not really) or about to puke.... I was still going strong .....haaaaaaaaa! Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Of course I couldn't move sat night or yesterday and they were probably out drinking and causing trouble

One more tip from coach camargo..... In WODS with heavy bottlenecks don't redline on the heavy or technical,moves... Slow those down and make up time on the burpees or runs/rows.... Saves overall time

I am so happy I am not alone.

I had a slight victory last week, pulled a 1:27 500m row (shhh, I am 6'4") and currently have the top spot on a leader board in the gym that everyone forgets to check ..

I'm only 29 but thinking about the future, so I can avoid making TS posts like this one in fifteen years, haha.

Does anybody have experience with testosterone replacement therapy?

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tes...herapy/MC00030

Could be a good way to hold off the aches and pains, the memory problems and hazy focus, and athletic decline for another decade. I know that a lot of athletes use TRT (especially common in MMA), and that it does obviously have side effects, but I'm certainly looking into it for the future. Thoughts?

As for Mr Brown, my advice would be just to enjoy the WOD's. There's something to be said about pushing yourself and bettering yourself. The 50 year old is getting more from his workout if he really pushes himself across that finish line than the 25 year old who half-assed it and finished a minute in front. Mental toughness, and the ability to push yourself is a skill. You can always develop and take pride in that.
