Rope Climbs

I've burned through 2 pairs of shoes doing the rope climbs. Am i doing something wrong? I use the "S" method with the rope down the center of my body. I widen my feet to descend the rope, and I believe this is where I burn out the shoes. I've climbed ropes all through my military career, and have resorted back to climbing with boots. This creates a problem when there are other movements involved where I would like to have the mobility in my ankles.

Has anyone ever come across this? Do you have any solutions?

The solution is to get a pair of shoes that are designed for rope climbs - INov8 bare-x or the reebok nanos both links WFS. I have found the new balance minimus, vibrams, and inov8 f-lite 230s fall apart quickly from rope climbs. I have the Reebok nanos and I pretty much only wear them for rope climb WODs (or box jumps). you can also tape around your arch for extra protection.

edit (add): a controlled decent will save shoes too.
