CFE Progression and an APFT

For those that followed me regularly know that I have committed my training to CrossFit Endurance (CFE). This all happened after reading Brian MacKenzie’s book; Power Speed Endurance.

I have noticed some major changes in my endurance and feelings as I have progress through what I call Phase 1 of 3; the 6 Week Progression as Brian explains in his book. This notice was proven this Wednesday when I took my Semi-annual Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). I did very little physical training prior to starting with the CFE progression. At most some slow runs and hardly any push-ups or sit-ups. It just so happened that I began it 6 weeks out from my APFT. Therefore I said this is the only training I will do for my APFT.

Side note; I have never scored well on APFTs. I have never ran sub 13:30. My best run ever was a 13:46 when I was 18. I have never maxed push-ups or the sit-ups. However, I am now 30 years old, trained only 3 days a week, and scored almost better than any other test in my 12 years of my Army Career.

Although my score may be lower than some my age, or lower than some that are 18, it is still higher than some my age and some at 18. Regardless, it is the best I have done in a very long time. I am very excited to see how much more I improve as I move into the 12 Week Linear Strength Progression.

I hope to revisit this post in about 12 weeks with an updated score.

Official APFT Results:
Push-Ups: 71 (94pts)
Sit-Ups: 69 (86pts)
2 Mile Run: 14:36 (86pts)

Total Score: 266pts
Goal: 270pts or Better

Congrats Shane!

Have you read the Leavenworth study on crossfit? They demonstrated increases also using standard CF as well.
