Peaking in sport competition

I do trail running competition.
The periodization of a training program is usually designed so that the athlete will be at his/her "peak" for the main event (most important competition) of his/her season.
Does Crossfit methodology use the notion of "peaking" in competitive season of any sport?
In other words, should I keep respecting a periodization in my training that include the concept of peaking or can I apply the fact that Crossfit training methodology creates "very fit athletes that are ready for anything at any time", so that I could give my best performance at any time?
Thank you all.
