Osteoporosis and crossfit

Hi

Does anyone have experience of doing crossfit when you have osteoporosis?

From what I've read weight bearing exercise like crossfit is recommended. I'm going to see a specialist but trying to research in the meantime.

Thanks

Pat

Re: Osteoporosis and crossfit

Yes weight bearing activity is the first step in the treatment of osteoporosis. I would recommend it to prevent the progression and try to change it.

Diet is important. Recent studies of Vit K2 reveal it activates a protein that regulates calcium use, enabling it to be used in your bones. It also helps prevent deposits of calcium in soft tissues (coronary arteries). [WFS]: http://www.lifeextension.com/magazin...min-k2/page-01

Thanks - appreciate the link. Will look into bringing some back next time I'm home.

Re: Osteoporosis and crossfit

In 2006, Diane walked into our door. She was diagnosed with osteoporosis and during 3 years of bone density tests, the condition was worsening. Her doctor made several recommendations on diet and exercise (she attended group exercise classes at a local big box), but nothing worked.
She had just received the results of her last bone density test and her doctor recommended medications. Diane said no. A friend of hers, who was one of our members, suggested she give CrossFit a try.
Diane trained with us 3 times a week for a year. When she returned to her doctor for her annual check up and bone density test, her doctor was shocked by the change. I remember Diane coming into the gym and telling me, "My doctor said, Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. In all of my years in practice I've never observed improvement like this."
Diane still trains at Mt. Baker CrossFit and continues to have excellent results, thanks to CrossFit.
