Need Help on Paleo Diet

I have been on Paleo for about 2 months and not seeing the best results.

Stats

6'0 215(normally at 195)

Dead- 496
Clean-265
Snatch-185
BackSquat-405

Fran- 4:03

I am in pretty decent shape but really want to get rid of the excess fat i have around midsection. I train 3 days on 1 day off during week. Leave one cheat meal on weekends. Have been hitting more strength/interval work recently and less metcons. But should that affect weight loss that much? I feel as if diet comes first and should still help me lose wieght.

My diet is as follows

8:00 am - 2 tbs liquid fish oil + Multi

9:00am- 4 eggs, 3 pieces bacon

1:00pm - 1 chicken breast, serving brocolli, 5 macadamia nuts

pre-workout- beef jerky and 200mg caffiiene
Workout- 630-730
Teach crossfit class- 730-830

During class- 30 g of Whey

Dinner(830pm)- Chickn/Steak asparagus or brocolli , 1/2 sweet potato.

Folllowing block dieting my portions are fine, I am eating very clean and I cant figure out why I am not dropping weight.. I am at a desk all day and am not really hungry until these times.

One other thing is that I might be eating to late at night and storing becaues I dont get home to eat dinner till 830. Was thinking of going to liquid dinner to increase hunger in AM.

Are macronutrients off?

Any thoughts anyone?

It's not a paleo problem you have, it's a calorie deficit problem.

What do you cook your chicken in? What are you drinking? Just water? Milk? What kind of workouts are you doing?

You might be eating more than you think.

Re: Need Help on Paleo Diet

Chicken is cooked on grill so no oils.. Drinking only water with lemon...no milk/dairy/cheese

Workouts are high intensity interval work(OPT style) backed off or metcons to gain strength... this might be be reason for change...

i can try cutting portions

Re: Need Help on Paleo Diet

Is what you listed above your best estimate or did you literally eat that every day for the last 2 months? When you say chicken for dinner, how much are we talking about?

Alcohol?

If you want to cut some calories out, take out the bacon and jerky. Toss in more veggies.

Re: Need Help on Paleo Diet

More or less for the past 2 months it has been chicken /steak and brocolli. Would mix in a salad once in a while or asparagus or switch up veggies.

Had a reset/"cheat" meal once every two weeks. Normal portion size, but with high glycemic foods to create a high insulin response.

1 normal size piece of chicken is portion size.

Maybe drank 2x in past 2 months.

If you think its a cal in/cal out issue then yeh. But for my BF% at 17% for 215 lbs. I should be eating around 175g of protien a day.

I was thinking of removing bacon and just going with eggs in morning.

Re: Need Help on Paleo Diet

uh...Zane, respectfully, you're totally off base.

OP, what Dave was saying is that you're UNDEReating, like whoa.

I am 5'8", female, and 175, workout fewer times and less intensely than you, and I am maintaining weight with a calorie intake very similar to yours. Eat more.

Also, 3on/1off is probably too much intense activity for you to support in general, but definitely if you're undereating like this.

How's your sleep? are you sleeping 8+ hours uninterrupted in a completely dark room? You should be

Fat around the midsection is indicative of cortisol issues. Additional stressors like high intensity exercise and further calorie restriction is NOT the answer to the problem, rather the cause of the problem.

Re: Need Help on Paleo Diet

Renee,

Thats what i was kind of thinking. So that sounds great in theory . A couple of issues from my end. Help me understand here

1. Sleep is tough, I know this. I train at crossfit gym after work and workout and do not eat till about 830 . Sleep from 11- 730. So i get about 8 hrs.

If it is a cortisol issue , I should eat more. But I am not hungry. So how do i jumpstart the metabolism?

I should also note, I am very tired during day.

I sit all day at desk, very little activity, So i feel as if i need less energy during day, but I am most tired around 3-4pm and prior to workouts

I am also most hungry prior to workouts.

I just cant seem to eat more during day when I am less active. Should i just try adding in meals?
