Re: My garage gym!!!!

It looks an awful lot like the bar I got which is this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Joist-Mount-Ch...8516297&sr=1-2 (wfs)

Cheap, easy to install, and gets the job done. Perfect for a gym in a basement with exposed cross boards.

Re: My garage gym!!!!

David, I got the pull up bar on ebay. Was $34 back then. I think they are around 50 now. Solid as a rock. I keep my #100 heavy bag on it and kip on at the same time. Never wobbled our worried me.

Same as that amazon one. Good call on the link. Can't make one for that price.

Re: My garage gym!!!!

I love the scrapyard baby!!!! Stopped the other day and scored a brand new olympic bar for $9. Thats right $9. Its a crying shame but dopeheads will scrap anything for money.

I have a beam in my garage just like this. It's surrounded by sheet rock like yours is too, so I can't see where the wood actually is to mount this pull up bar. But using a drill it seems I only have about 2"-3" of wood at the very bottom, and above that there doesn't appear to be anything behind the sheet rock (unless there's an I beam deeper than my drill bit is going).

Additionally, the very bottom 1" of wood seems to be wrapped in metal at the corner, I presume to prevent from being drilled into. Therefore I can't get both lag screws in each side (I can only get one on each side). Does anyone have any ideas how this should be mounted then?

Re: My garage gym!!!!

I want to update my home gym inventory. I just bought a set of used hex dumbbells from 10 to 75 pounds every five pounds for $200 on Craigslist. I couldn't believe the guy let me have them so cheap. I will post pics soon and could use some storage suggestions. Can't afford the rack to hold them at this time. I would rather do something DIY anyway.

Re: My garage gym!!!!

David, I don't have ideas on mounting the pull up bar. I have been lucky in mounting rings, ropes and bars to my ceiling, as I am not to hammer friendly. good luck and let me know how it works out.
