Apparently, I'm incompetent.

Actually, pullups have been going okay. 3 days ago, I got 70 pullups in a day and then the day after it was 71 in a day. Much better than the 68 I was having trouble with.

Lately, though it's been like "AAAAAAAAAAH WHY ARE YOU BINGING?!!!"

There's also that fear. I didn't want to do pullups before I started sprinting today(save as much energy as possible) but then I found out I would not be able to get to the track, so it's like "damn, I wasted all that time resting for nothing".

Re: Apparently, I'm incompetent.

Stuff happens. Make the extra effort to get it tomorrow. Commit to doing it - don't miss 2 days or 3 days because it'll just drag out.

It may also be, that you have to cut back on your pull-ups. A reset if you will.
Do your sprints than go hit your pull-ups straight away. In the beginning, you'll be doing less but you should adapt and acclimate. Start from there and keep building up. In a week or two you may be back where you are ... but able to sprint, then pull-up in the same session. You'll be better for it.

Re: Apparently, I'm incompetent.

Why are pullups going to have a negative effect on your sprinting? Don't you think it might be useful to adapt to that kind of workload?

My schedule falls out such that I do my 5/3/1 deadlifts and front squats right before my Tuesday rugby practice and my 5/3/1 bench and incline (plus pullups and dumbbell rows) right before my Thursday rugby practice. Rugby includes quite a bit of sprinting as well as hitting, lifting, and pushing, in case you're not familiar with it. Do you think I waste time worrying about being able to run fast enough at rugby practice?

Well, I'm doing track work in the morning so I figure it'll work better this way.

That's the problem...you're doing too much figuring and thinking when you don't know much about training, and you're willfully disregarding the advice of people who generally know what they're talking about.

1. Find a program that is designed for the goals you want to achieve.
2. Follow it to the letter.
3. Reassess every few months to see if you're getting closer to those goals.

It's really that simple.

Well, the whole point of doing pullups was to get faster for sports. If I just do track work NOW before I've finished *getting good* at pullups, I'm just going to run into the same issues I had before on the court.

I couldn't run fast enough, I couldn't jump high enough and I sure as hell couldn't move quickly enough. I wasn't good enough, period. "He's not that good."

I don't know what to tell you. I don't deserve the court or the track. At least, I don't think I do. But you tell me I should train on the track, so I will do that, if only away to get away from the neurotic behavior of walking on the treadmill and then eating myself sick afterwards because I can't resist pizza...

Re: Apparently, I'm incompetent.

So your pullups haven't helped you get faster.....but what effect have they had on your piano playing?
