Bruising on Collar Bone

Hey guys,

I am new to CrossFit and I have noticed that when I do shoulder press, push press, push jerk, thruster, and clean I get pretty bad bruising on my collar bone. Basically when the bar rests in the front rack position.

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or am I doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Not unusual for new folks. You'll get past it. Try to rest the bar more on your shoulders.

Re: Bruising on Collar Bone

Proper Front Rack position will fix that. Since you're talking about Press and C&J, your front rack will be more out and down than a standard "catching" front rack, but you still have to focus on driving your shoulders forward to rest the bar on your delts instead of your collar bone.

Re: Bruising on Collar Bone

Noticed a small bruise on one side of my collarbone after my first WOD involving power cleans. Kind of a badge of honor...!

I noticed I had one last weekend too. My wife asked "Is that a hickey!?"

Re: Bruising on Collar Bone

As everyone said, it's very common. Really work on getting your shoulders up and forward in the front rack position, and get fast at turning those elbows around in the clean. Those will eliminate the majority of the bruising.
