7 Olympic Lifts

What were the original 7 Olympic Lifts before it was reduced to the clean and the snatch?

Two hands snatch.
Two hands clean and jerk.
One hand snatch.
One hand clean and jerk.
Clean and press.
Swing.
Two Hands Anyhow.

I think those were them all off the top of my head.

Wow this is true? This may be the best piece of trivia I've heard all year. Does anyone have a link to an article on this?

It isn't set in stone, those were just the favorites at the time. The c&j,c&p, and snatches [and variations] were held at almost all Olympics and other events were switched in and out until the 1920s if I recall, when the Olympic committee decided to just keep the sntch, clean and jerk, and clean and press.

Re: 7 Olympic Lifts

I'm pretty sure is was five lifts: 1 hand barbell Snatch, 2 hand barbell Snatch, 1 hand Clean and Jerk, 2 hand Clean and Jerk, and 2 hand Clean and press. This was from 1896 to the twenties or so, as someone said, when the one handed movements were removed.

If you've never done one hand barbell snatches and clean and jerks, they are a treat. I got up to 120 in the snatch, and 145 in the clean and jerk. I also nearly lost one behind me, which if I hadn't rotated quickly would have ripped my arm out of socket. All good fun.

Haven't done them for quite some time.
