Smile Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Hello everyone,

Quick intro, my name is Hunter Blackmore, 20 years old and currently a junior at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, originally from Covington, Washington. I have been CrossFitting since June after a long youth and high school athletic career and a short collegiate one. I was recruited to play offensive line for Penn, however after an injury (potential brain stem, neck, nerve issue) and losing my passion for the game, I decided to quit after my freshman year.

When I came to college I was 6'2" 275 lbs. When I quit playing, I basically stopped eating and lifting and quickly dropped to a soft 194 at my low a little over a year ago. I am currently ~205 and happy with that.

Here is Philly, I workout out at CrossFit Center City and at home in Washington state I workout at Imperial CrossFit in Kent, WA.

Been eating pretty strict paleo since June with only the occasional cheat meal (~1 a week). Two days ago I decided to try out Mark Sisson's "primal" approach so I've introduced some full-fat greek yogurt and grass-fed butter and we'll see how that goes.

I decided to start keeping a workout log on here at the suggestion of my great coach at CFCC Erin Davidson. So here it is.

Although this log is new, I have kept track of my workouts other ways since I started CrossFit. Here are my PRs in different WODs, lifts, and runs:

Filthy 50 18:04 (8/30/11)

Girls
Fran 2:49 (10/11/11), 3:22 (8/24/11)

Helen 8:46 (10/12/11)

Cindy 23 (8/23/11)
Elizabeth 7:04 (8/25/11)
Lynne (@210#) 16/40, 10/30, 8/23, 8/20, 5/20 = 280 (10/8/11)

Heroes
Bradley 21:24 (9/3/11)
Murph 42:26 (9/1/2011)
Nutts 23:21 (12/1/2011)

Lifts

Push Press 215 (11/13/11), 205 (7/21/11)

Bench Press 315 (7/20/11)
Front Squat 310 (11/2/11), 305 (10/26/11), 290 (10/19/11), 270 (6/1/11)
Back Squat

Snatch 165 (12/10/11)
Deadlift 500 (7/15/11)

Runs

1 mile 6:51 (11/20/11)
5K

Not complete by any means and I'd like to think I could get a better time/weight on any of them tomorrow. Or at least that's what I strive for.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

So, first actual log post... Here we go

At CFCC -
Worked up to a 3-rep max weighted pull-up.
3xBW
3x25
3x45
3x65
3x75
Stopped at 75. I'm a slow mover on lifts, not a real explosive. So wanted to work on that.

Went on to the met-con which was "Angie" - 15:07.

First time I've done Angie. Lungs felt fine during it, was never winded. Just a lot of muscle fatigue. Would have probably have taken be 16 min as I was taking my time on the squats but then I thought Matt was going to catch me so had to pick up my pace.

That was the end of the work that was scheduled for the day. I hung around and did some extra work in the back of the box during the next class.

Single-arm KB OH Press

4x5 each arm @ 24kg

super-setted that with band-pull-aparts

4x20 w/ 2 mini bands

Then shrugs

4x20 w/ 36kg KB in each hand

After that did farmer's walks

2x280 ft w/ 36kg KB in each hand
2x140 ft ""

Then did HSPU
3x5

Finished with some curls for the girls.

Good day. Rather be at the box then studying for finals.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Today was CrossFit Football's Hero WOD Kalsu (100 thrusters @ 135# w/ 5 burpees on the minute, every minute) at CFCC. Had never done it before, but knew the hype.

Started off pacing myself (I never pace, but figured if I wanted to live I had to) with 5 thrusters per minute. The rest quickly shrunk. Made it to 50 thrusters doing the 5 rep scheme, then dropped to a round of 3, then did a round of 2. Panicked a little bit at that point as I was only just a little bit over half-way. After that, it was mostly rounds of 3 with a couple 4s and few 2s mixed in and 5 in my last round. Finished it Rx in 25:54.

Rested a little bit after that, discussed with others how terrible it was.

After I started feeling a little better, did some grip work. Looped a heavy band attached to a 24kg KB around a BB and twisted it up and slowly back down for about 5 sets each way.

Then did a few short farmer's walks w/ a 32kg KB in each hand (3x120ft) and then finished with 3x40 second holds.

Did a few quick sets of ring pull-ups just to loosen up - 2x5

Did some quick ab work and once again finished with CFTG.

Looking forward to deadlift tomorrow.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Went into CFCC at 7 this morning. Was surprisingly un-sore considering I completed Kalsu 11 hours previously.

First up was dead lifts. No repping the set out, each rep started "dead" on the ground. Warmed up at 135 then-
5x225
5x275
5x315
5x345
5x365

Could've done more but was a little slow (as usual) and Erin is worried (probably rightfully so) about my me over-taxing my nervous system the last week.

Met-con was not my favorite. 8 min AMRAP of 20 double-unders and 10 jumping lunges. The jumping lunges aren't bad. But I suck at doubles, couldn't get more than 3 in a row. I didn't used to be this bad. Rope rage was induced. Probably got 4-5 rounds. Lost count in my frustration.

After the met-con went right into seated 30" box jumps
5xbw
5x20# med ball
5x16kg KB
5x 20# DB in each hand
5x ""

Decided to call it a day there. Erin was telling me to leave and I have finals to study for.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Been slacking on posting with finals and flying across the country but have all my workouts.

Took Saturday and Sunday off. First off days for as long as I can remember.

Monday at CFCC was back squat.

3x155
3x195
3x225
3x265
3x280
3x300
3x315

Met-con was 5 rounds for time of 5x back squats at 50% of 3 rep earlier (160#), 60 feet of bear crawls, 10 Russian KB swings (2 pood). Completed in 4:47

My bear crawls look more like gorilla crawls when done at high speed.

Didn't stick around too long after that, had one last final to study for.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Yesterday was my first workout back at Imperial in Kent, WA.

Went in with my brother.

Started off working up to 3-rep max on pull-ups.
3xbw
3x25
3x45
3x55
3x60
3x65

Less than last week. Not sure why.

After that worked up to 3-rep max on bench
Warmed up @135
3x185
3x225
3x245
3x255
3x265

Better than Thanksgiving when I could only get 2 at 265. Hopefully this keeps improving back up to where it was.

Next was a workout I got off Rob Orlando's site.

60ft farmers walk w/ 150# in each hand
12 box jumps (24)
60ft farmers walk w/ 150# in each hand
12 burpees

Did 4 rounds of that. Timed each round individually with about 3 min rest in-between rounds. Times for the rounds were 1:39, 1:40, 1:41, 1:40

Was happy I kept it so consistent.

After that finished up with HSPU 3x10 and CFTG 3x10

Good day working with the bro. Nice to have my twin to work with.

Re: Hunter Blackmore's CFCC / Imperial Log

Today I was at Imperial and did the WOD they posted.

"The Chief" - 5 x 3min AMRAPs of 3 cleans (135), 6 push ups, 9 air squats with 1 minute rest between AMRAPs. Rounds for each 3 min sections were:
7, 6, 6, 5, 6 for a total number of 30

Was a little upset I left some in the tank for the last round and was able to beat my previous round in the last one. Makes me feel like I'm sand bagging. Overall was pretty happy with it though.

Worked with my good buddy Cody Quinn who wrestles at Minnesota State Mankato and is an absolute stud. Was good to have him there to push me.

Was done after that, felt like I had my share for the day. Plus the peanut-butter filled pretzels, beer, limoncello, and graham crackers I had at a party last night didn't leave me feeling great in the morning.

Haha no. Mine as well be though. He's two years younger than me. But sometimes I swear we have a twin connection and finish each other's sentences. Plus we look exactly the same. He's maybe 1/2 inch taller. Constantly get asked if we are twins when we are together.

I like to think I'm the better looking one, but I know the truth.
