Please join me in a WOD to support my cousin

Hello all:

Hi everyone-

My cousin Kaity Algeri is an military police officer currently stationed at Balad AFB in Iraq. She faces a lot of scary stuff on a daily basis, and anyone who has had a loved one serve in the military knows that support from people back home is incredibly important. CrossFitters have a special relationship with the military, and I'd like to ask my brothers and sisters to join me in showing my cousin some support by completing "Kaity":

With a 100 lb sandbag or 2 50 lb kettlebells (100 lbs is the Rx'ed weight b/c Kaity wears 100 lbs of gear every time she goes out):

5 rounds for time (sub kettlebells for sandbag where necessary):

400m run with sandbag on shoulders
30 sandbag thrusters
400m run with sandbag
50 pushups
400m run with sandbag
30 sandbag cleans (squat or power)
400m run with sandbag
50 burpees
400m run with sandbag
Either 50 pullups, or if you don't have a pullup bar available, 50 SDHP with your weight.

I know that none of you know who she is, and that you probably don't want to go through all that for someone you don't even know. However, I think it would really say a lot about our community if we could come together in support of someone who has already shown such bravery in serving her country and defending the values we all believe in. I sincerely appreciate anyone who is willing to join me in this WOD-I will be attempting it May 23rd, but people are free to do it whenever they wish.

I ask that if you do choose to do this WOD (whether RXed or scaled), please let me know either by posting here, or emailing me at joe.shininger@gmail.com. My hope is that I can send her something that shows the number of people who attempted this. I think she would be really touched to know that she's got so many people behind her, even if they're strangers. Pics and video are also welcome!

Thank you all very much.

Joe

Re: Please join me in a WOD to support my cousin

1. Are you sure she carries 100 pounds of gear? That would be basically her BW in gear. From what I've heard, standard issue is about 65 pounds of gear.

2. I'll see about subbing this with 2 25lb DB. That's all I really have unless I was to go buy some sand ( not really a bad idea but not exactly what I was planning to do tomorrow and carry around on my back on my bike ). I do with I had 50's though or 45's. Unfortunately, Sac will only be 85 tomorrow not the 100 or so it was earlier this week.

3. My old cellphone has video abilities but I don't really have a way to record myself since I will probably do this at the neighborhood park. Can't really leave the gym open with no one around.

TO be honest, no I'm not sure. I did some googling, and 100 lbs (or close to it) is what I heard the most. People attempting this with less weight won't ruin it, it's the thought that counts. Pics and video are optional, if it's a hassle don't worry about it.

Thanks for your support!

Actually I won't have access to my DB till Tuesday maybe Monday since the gym is locked. Gotta look into getting a big bag of sand and where the nearest place I can get it is besides some rope and duct tape. I don't think my backpack will take that load without failing so I'm gonna rig something up.

Picture may be doable somehow.

Dang w/f safe

Guess, she's lucky she doesn't have to be in Afghanistan for a 3 day hike.

Blair, you bring up a good point that I didn't consider when I came up with this. I really do want to ask people to not use the RX'ed weight if you aren't sure you can handle it. I would feel really bad if people got hurt doing ths. I'm still gonna use 100 lbs, because, well.....family, ya know?

Re: Please join me in a WOD to support my cousin

We had some fairly new CFers show up today, so some serious scaling was needed, but the spirit was there.
Mainly they worked with weight vests, kettlebells, etc.
They showed up & gave it their best!

Re: Please join me in a WOD to support my cousin

Joe,
is this the entire workout or are you suggesting completing this 5 times?

400m run with sandbag on shoulders
30 sandbag thrusters
400m run with sandbag
50 pushups
400m run with sandbag
30 sandbag cleans (squat or power)
400m run with sandbag
50 burpees
400m run with sandbag
Either 50 pullups, or if you don't have a pullup bar available, 50 SDHP with your weight.

Frank-

That was amazing to watch. Seriously. Thank you and your class for putting yourselves through that, it really means a lot to my family. I finished in a little over an hour, but I missed a few reps simply b/c I was so tired I couldn't count. I had my bag on my shoulders the whole time...my neck was killing me!

Tom-1 time through is the whole workout. I would never ask anyone to do that 5 times, that would be suicide!

I sincerely appreciate everyone's efforts here. I spoke to my aunt and uncle today, and they were truly moved to hear that so many people were willing to take on "Kaity." I am going to try and get them to write something an perhaps post it here (God help me, trying to explain to them how a message board works!). Much love to you all!
