Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Wed- light warm up.

Squat snatch dumbell and ohs- 10-80#

Thrusters- 50+ with 100#

S2O- 100# for about 30 reps.

Rowing 5k some efforts in the 20 cal per min pace.

Lunges just to check in- 30,40,50# db.

Cat nap. Got some food and headed home.

Wonder what the 3 workout choices are going to be. I would bet same movements just pick between duration and or reps.

Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Friday,
Long warm up stretching, getting the hips, shoulders and hammies mobilized. Rowing, bird feeders, shoulder strength.

C2b and thrusters warm up. Hit about 20-25 of them each. Went up to some 165# thrusters. Did not know what to expect. My c2b's have been really good but they have not been under any pressure with thrusters.

7 min worth of thrusters and c2b.
Easy pace from the start 3/3 6/6
9/ 9 pull ups un broken
12 thrusters 7/5 and un broken on the c2b
15 set- 6/5/4 and 11/4 but my grip went on the 11th c2b. Oh no.. rookie status.
18- wanted 7/6/5 but lost count and did not hear the judge. So went 6/6/6 that is the devils number bad news. Had 60 seconds to do as much as I could.

Set of 7 was thinking ok. Then the grip forced me to singles. I should have waited 10 more second and hit a 7 but I didn't. So about 11 singles. Last one at 6:59.999

Total was 126. Wanted 130+ but Ill take it.

Did some more work after cool down. Rowing, s2o but really can't remember what else.

Saturday- warm up 30 min, rowing and some dl- everything was heavy. 45-365 felt like a ton.

Partner workout- Did it with Sara-
20 min-
200 meter run
5 synro burpees
20 synro lunges alternating with 25# slam ball
50 slam balls between the team of 2.

We did I think about 6 or 7 rounds. Did not keep track. I found out that she was using the same weight and mid way thru the workout I was doing the lion share of the ball slams but was super impressed by her. She was hoping that I quit the workout 1/2 way thru. HEHE.

Clean work- 45-215 felt ok. Then did some new style clean and jerks. Will test more later.

Glad that the open in over. For some average c+ training I feel that I put in solid b scores.

Sunday was stretch and my mu/row/ghd.

Did about 70 ghd, 20 mu and did my meters. Felt ok but nothing too hard. Just to check in. Was rowing around the 1:45-1:55 pace.

Went to finish my hill top deck. Looks cool.

Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Open recap- sick for about a month leading up to the open.
18.1 could not breath and rowing was pathetic. A effort D result
18.2 that combo is not that good for me. Still effects of sickness - A effort C- result
18.2 very disappointing. My clean is so much better. Max is 275 and this day hit a 248#. B effort D- result.
18.3 this was a good one for me. I missed shutting the door on it by not going for it in the bar mu. B effort A result.
18.4 was a good one for me until the 315 ate my lunch- A effort B result.
18.5 good effort B + result was a B.

Overall I rate myself a solid B for the 2018 open.

About 10% off in scoring. If you want to go and be a beast in the games you have to have A training, A effort and A results. I clearly missed the mark on that. Now this year I turn 50 and would be in top 5-7 in that category. But who cares Im in the 45-49.

I will do my research on the MQ movements and find the best plan for my training. I can't do it all and really don't want to.

Give it a go for fun Vic... plus you don't need your A game until you get to the games

Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Monday- normal warm up.

Check on power clean - 45-215# light weights were very good. Over 200 was not that special.

Some shoulder to over head work.

Warm up air squats, running and some sto.

Time to fly. The CrossFit Journal was in the gym today. Filming Obese2Beast. Great kid and getting very good at x fit by the month. Proud of him.

20 min AMRAP
30 air squats
15 s2o 115#
Run 400 meters.

Pushed myself a bit. Un broken on everything. 6 rounds.

Bit of stretch, rowing and floss.

Went home for dinner with my lady and daughter in from LA.

Good night got to sleep before 11PM.

Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Wed was active recovery.

Some 500 meter efforts 2:15-1:50's. About 7 of them.

Also did some burpee box jump overs. Trying to get the new standards while being efficient. I think that I am going slow. 3 efforts all under :45 for 10 of them. Want to try and do 10 per min for a sustainable pace.

Some stretching. Spoke with Coach Kyle. The MQ is going to be fun. Too far back to make a difference. Seems as all of the workouts are wheel house for the top guys. We will see what 4 workouts in a row do to them an me also.

Will be a good guide for next year with the 50+.

Re: 2014 45-49 Fittest on the Planet goal

Vic,

Congrats on a solid showing in the Open. Remember there are hundreds of other guys and gals (like me) that would love to make it on to the online qualifiers. I sure fell like I built some momentum this past six months and if I can build off of that I have a chance to make Masters Q next year. Games is pretty far out of reach for me (40-44) but not the qualifier. The clean and DL one pushed me back way too far. After not having lifted heavy anything for almost two years I was really happy with the whole thing.

Best of luck on prep and doing the Q and again great job.
