Child screaming during the class
What do owners do about parents who have kids that are screaming during the wod and they just keep on going while everyone is basically thinking who kid and why aren't they doing anything about it?
I find myself being both day care and janitor.. love the ownership.. he he.. We have a kids room with view to the wod area so the parents can see them. One time a 3 month kid was screaming so loud the coach had to pick them up. Tactfully how does one go about addressing this? Would love to know. |

Re: Child screaming during the class
A 3 month old kid was left alone in the kids room?
We usually communicate to the parents our expectations of them bringing kids to the gym. We tell them that if they are able to bring something that the kids are able to do on their own and know they are not able to go onto the black mats they are welcome there. If not then other arrangements need to be made. That doesn't always work so we will ask the kids to settle down. If that doesn't work then we well get the parent to stop to handle it. We also will add something to our weekly email if there is a reoccurring problem that needs to be addressed. We usually say it is a privilege for them to leave there kids there while they work out and that we don't want to raise rates just to have a baby sitter there for some classes. That usually settles it down for a while but every few months we will have to address it. The bad part is sometimes it my kids! ![]() |

Its always your members responsibility to take care of them, but you can make the rules clear and a couple of them funny to break it up a little. For example: Rules for those with kids in the box: 1 - You are responsible for your own kids while you WOD, if they scream then you need to go and take care of them. 2 - Screaming kids reduces your chance of a WOD PR for time, because the clock is still running while you tend to your kids ![]() 3 - just because your kid is screaming does not mean you are going to get away with anything, we see you, we know how much you have left to do ![]() and finally No!! you are not allowed to tie them up in the corner with the ropes and resistance bands even if we are not using them at this time! or something like that.... i am sure you will come yoi with something... if you have a sign you never have to repeat the rules to anyone... anyone that comes with kids has to read the sign... add a pic of a screaming kid to it too.. a cartoon pic, there are loads on the internet. |
