Musical Bears

Set-up the medicine balls as chairs. Bearwalk around the "chairs" and when the music stops, claim a chair. If you are out, you do 2x burpees for every person left in the game. For instance 10 people left in the game, 20 burpees.

Re: Fun Warm Up Ideas.

We Call it the *idiot*.

Everyone on one side of the box, jog to the other side...
3 push ups,
Jog back to start 3 push ups

Back over to the other side
3 push ups + 3 air squats
Back to the start
3 push ups + 3 air squats

Back over to the other side
3 push ups + 3 air squats + 3 burpees
Back to the start
3 push ups + 3 air squats + 3 burpees

Back over to the other side
3 push ups + 3 air squats + 3 burpees + 3 situps
Back to the start
3 push ups + 3 air squats + 3 burpees + 3 situps

Keep doing this and adding something new after each turn but everyone has to remember the right order. Now some will be in front and some will be behind but whoever is in front gets to choose what to add by shouting it out to everyone.

Now it's not a race it's a warm up but the fun thing is trying to remember whats going on and warm up at the same time. It will seem a bit of a mess but it helps everyone find order and keep the pace.

It's different and will keep the brain going while working the rest of your body.

Do this for 10 min and you will be warmed up.

WB run...

Get all the wall balls out and put hem on one side of the box.

Split hem into 3 or 4 piles (1 for each team) depending on how many people you have there. Put 5, 10, 15, 20kg plates next to each of the piles. Try and make sure that you have 3-4 items for each person.

Teams on other side of Box...

Goal - team has to run over and bring everything back to their side, 1 object at a time, 1 person at a time.

Once this is Done the teams go to the other side... This time each person runs and collects 2 items until they have collected everything.

Next time 3 items and then 4 items...

Do this as fast as possible... For a Numbers of rounds...

Great fun and drives you nuts where you drop something and need to pick it up again.

Re: Fun Warm Up Ideas.

We use the hurdles and agility ladder and that is fun. Sometimes for a small class, I set a clock for 14 mins, odd mins 10cal rowish, even, pick a bodyweight movement and hit 5-10 reps. Lots of DU, BJ, squats, situps, burpees, whatever. Work to rest is about :30/:30, works out well. Big classes that's a tough 1 to manage.

My training partner and I usually start with 15 mins of throwing the football around and running routes. That's fun.

Re: Fun Warm Up Ideas.

we have played "monkey in the middle" where the person in the center tries to tag people so that they have to do 5 reps of some movement, its really fun. We've also done musical med balls, with a different movement each round until no one is left. We set up a small obstacle course of boxes of varying heights and do pushups before, jump over all boxes and then do 5 burpees on the other end before repeating. We've also played "med ball basketball" and it was a big hit. Place a basket(ours was a laundry basket) directly behind a box, and have the players stand about 6-8 feet back from the box. Do a full squat and throw the ball aiming for the basket, it counts whether it bounces off of the box or goes directly into the basket. Movement penalties like burpees or pushups, etc for each shot that is missed and have two teams competing against each other. We've also done the card warmup where you assign each card a value and do that movement when its drawn from the deck. Another one we do is have each person row to 250m with the goal being to end as close as possible to 250. 1 burpee for every meter over 250, and TWO burpees for every one under.

Come to think of it, weve had some pretty cool warmups

Dodgeball is great, and almost everyone loves it. However, I have almost completely stopped planning it in the gym because of how many shoulder issues it was causing. Even with people warming up to play (which kind of defeats the purpose), throwing those light balls wreaked havoc on shoulders.

Re: Fun Warm Up Ideas.

Another one... "You call it you do it"

15-20 min warm-up, either one big group or a couple of smaller ones...

Its like this.... anyone can call out the exercise but it should be for a max of 10 reps.. but before anyone else does it that person must do it first, the rest look and take note of the technique to make sure they do it right... and then they do it all together after this person is done.

This time the person that called it gets to see the rest do it but can also act as motivation or keep count of the reps by shoulting it out.

Anything goes..... but as i said "You call it you do it"
