Master Qual

So what do you think about the 2016 Master Qual-

2014 had-
Max clean

1 round for time 100 pull ups and 100 wall balls

Amanda

3 rounds for time-
50 cal row
15 hspu
50 double unders

2015 had-
Max snatch

5 min AMRAP
5 MU
10 cleans 155#

Double heavy Jackie-
1000 meter row
50 thrusters 75#
30 c2b

21-15-9
DL 225#
Box jumps
HSUP with new style of standards

Total have seen -
Clean twice
Pull ups- one time
Wall balls- one time
Muscle ups- twice
Snatch- Twice
Row- twice
HSPU- twice
Double unders- once
Thrusters- once
C2B- once
Dead lifts- once
Box jumps- once

So far 12 exercises with 5 repeats.

Possible new ones- Pistols, Bar Muscle ups, HS walks, GHD.. OHS??

I am thinking on the max they might to Max OHS from the ground. That way they could check off clean, s2o, jerk and OHS at the same time.

Metcons run from 4-5 min to 15-20 min.

Congrats To Scott Jenkins and Mike Cook for making the MQ. How many others made it? Great job everyone.

Re: Master Qual

Thanks, Vic - congrats to you and all the Masters Qualifiers. Top 200 in the world is no easy feat.

The pattern, if any, for the MQ looks to me like a 1rm of an Olympic lift variation, a short, medium, and long. One of the workouts is a push/pull couplet, and one is posterior chain dominant. Exercise selection focuses on more difficult bodyweight skills.

I agree with testing the OHS from the ground. 1-5 reps would be a good test.

I also think it is possible that we could see something like the last event from 2014 regionals - 64 pull ups and 8 OHS @ 205#. The loading would be not as intense - but I could see 50 pull ups and 5 OHS @ 155.

Another possibility is a down and back chipper with MU in the middle. Something like row-power snatch-burpee box jump overs-ring muscle ups - burpee box jump overs - power snatch - row.

Re: Master Qual

Hope that they have the same format. Max or heavy 3-5, sprint met con, skilled sprint met con and a long one that tests endurance.

Been training 2 times per day… getting ready. Have some tough programming coming up by my coach.

She said that the ohs from the ground might be too dangerous for the old people so might be from the rack if tested.

Cheers
Vic

Re: Master Qual

That may be true about the OHS. The transition from front rack to back rack can be a bit dicey. When I do heavy OHS from the ground, I'll just power clean, and then jerk from the front rack and go from there. I try to do my PC with hands a little wider than usual, then get them bit wider for my jerk, and maybe inch it a bit more once it is overhead so that the bar ends up in a grip that I can OHS. That works for me pretty well.
