bone or soft tissue damage?

Hey everybody, I went through some military training last week that had me doing long runs in boots with a weighted ruck, and since last Wednesday my left foot has been really sore. Doesn't hurt when I get up in the morning, but as the day goes on and after I've been putting some weight on it and walking around, I'm getting pain in the lateral, top part of my mid-foot. No pain from ankle or toe flexion or extension, and no pain when I supinate or pronate my foot, just pain when the foot is weight-bearing. My question is: if this were a stress fracture, it wouldn't feel fine in the morning then hurt more as the day goes on, would it? Does this sound more like a soft-tissue injury, maybe a ligament or tendon, that will just need some more time off from running? Thanks, not looking for a medical diagnosis necessarily, but at least maybe someone has had a similar experience.

I developed a stress fracture in my tibial plateau from backpacking (~30pound pack, 27 miles in two days with no prior conditioning) and it did not hurt unless I was running, I could walk all day and not feel anything but some slight general soreness. But as soon as I started to run, within a 1/4 mile, I would feel much sharper pain. This went on for a while before I finally got it diagnosed.

I would seek medical advice.

Yeah.. running in boots is horrible for you.

Stay off it and ice. See if it clears up... it's probably a bruise or soft tissue damage. Could be inflammation of something else though. Doubtful it's ligament or tendon unless you like sprained your ankle or something.

Stress fractures you'll generally feel coming on slowly like shin splints and then it just goes pop and breaks. Possibly light stress fractures.. in which case the diag would be to rest anyway.. so yeah. Rest.
