Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

Friday 07/02/10 WOD

Pack
Ten rounds for time of:
3 Weighted Pull-ups, 35 pounds
5 Strict Pull-ups
7 Kipping Pull-up

Time - a sad 26:10

Muscle failure all the way. I did the 1st set with 35lb, but it totally activated my golf elbow, so I didn't use any on the remaining 9 sets. Pull-ups are tough for me and I have to do them on a Smith machine, which makes kipping more difficult. Oh well, I completed it and am sore today.

Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

Saturday 07/03/10 WOD

Five rounds for load and time of:
Deadlift, 5 reps (222lbs. - Only 3 completed)
5 Ring handstand push-ups (Subbed HSPUs)

Time - 9:10

Workout was going well, but on about the 3rd rep of the DLs I had an explosion of pain in my lower back. Dropped the barbell and fell to my knees. Couldn't move for a minute or two, but managed to ever so slowly drag my feet to the wall and do 2 more sets of HSPUs and stopped the timer. Not sure what has happened, but it wasn't good. I think I sacrificed form, unknowingly, for speed on the DLs. Hung on inversion table as soon as I got home and took 800mg ibuprofen.

07/04/10
Rest day as RXd
Back improved some, but gets stiff very quickly and causes pain. Only some (most) movements cause pain.? I pray to God it's not a disc problem.

07/05/10
Self RXd rest day. Back is doing better, but definitely not good enough to work out yet. Got some inversion table time in today. Will probably do the same tomorrow.

Self RXd rest day.

Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

Hey Tony,

Sorry to hear about your back! As sudden as the pain and incapacitation came (and that it seems to feel better with rest and NSAIDs), I'd suspect a muscle strain / tear, but I'm no physician. A disc rupture or injury would continue to give you trouble in most cases, without relief.

If you haven't already, could I suggest you get it checked out? Also, FWIW, I'm told that a 10-day course of Aleve (longer-acting ibuprofen) is better on your stomach and does a better job of cutting down the inflammation. Have you iced the injured area (20 minutes on, at least 20 minutes off) with gentle stretching?

Gotta watch those DLs.....I think letting my form go when I tried to accidentally straight-leg an 80% max DL last week is what caused my hamstring to go.....

Take care and blessings. Praying for a quick and complete recovery for you!

Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

07/06 - 07/10

Still resting/recuperating back.

Wednesday 07/08/10 WOD

Decided to give it a try on non-back stressing exercises.

5 rounds for time:

15-Thrusters
10-Push-ups(parallelette bars)
5-Pull-ups

Time - 15:05

Workout went fine. Pretty well all unbroken sets. Cardio was really tough in the heat/humidity.

Thursday 07/09/10 Self RXd WOD

10 rounds for time:

25 (actual) - lunges
20 - Sit-ups (regular)
5 - HSPUs

Time - 27:11

Garage was hot and humidity near 100% again. Back didn't bother me, which was planned - no stress on back. Fair to good cardio. Broken sets due to muscle failure on lunges and sit-ups about last 4 rounds.

Tony,

So glad to see that that back-friendly workouts are going well. It has got to be difficult to work out in that heat and humidity. Been hot (and for us, humid) here, but nothing like what you are experiencing.

And rest assured knowing that Jehovah Raffa has your back! Blessings!

Good work Man, and no back pain with the HSPU is great, that means you form was good, and even that stress didn't bother your back.

Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

Stuggling with dates and days!!!! Previous WOD was on a Friday and the rest day was on Saturday.

SUNDAY 07/11/10 Self RXd WOD

10 Rounds for time:

10-Back OH Squats
20-Parallette bar push-ups
30-Thrusters

Time - 31:11

Did first five rounds in 11 something I think. Broken sets started in on the push-ups at the fifth round. Muscle failure slowed me the most and maybe a little cardio, but it was a good cardio workout. Non-stress back workout - still healing the back.

Re: I'll do it with the strength Christ has given me. Tony

Sunday's workout was not OHS (overhead squats), but shoulder presses behind the head on the machine. Weight unknown, would guess 55 lbs, didn't have any broken sets, but definitely was challenging. I need to put more thought into posting my workout and days/dates obviously!
