I really don't know what all of the hype is all about with Nike.. Funny Reebok supports crossfit plenty making the games what it is.. yes they might make money but they bring so much to x fit. Nike not so much.

Reebok supporting CF was a simple marketing decision. It wasn't to support CF. Did you see anybody wearing Reebok 4 years ago? They want to sell shoes and it has worked well for them. Now Nike has come to play.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Attended the Atlantic Regionals in Atlanta to support an athlete from our gym. The field is definitely stacked and overall, the events were fun to watch except waiting for everyone to get off the true form runners but I believe that has been covered. Athletes definitely put on a great show. They make things look very easy which clearly, are not.

HQ does a good job running the events...everything went off on time and you can tell it was well planned. Vendor area seemed good. I did not buy anything but looked around.

I will echo the sentiments on venue. The Atlanta Congress center sucked. The location sucked. Food inside sucked and like the South, on Sat or Sun you could not get a seat if you were not there early. I stayed downtown Atlanta which I will never, ever do again. The convention center is not close to any hotel...even the "connected" Omni hotel was a 20 min walk. On a map, it looked like it was much closer but the venue itself is so huge it takes 15 minutes to walk from one side to the other (which you must do coming from the hotels). Yes, I know we're all fit people and personally, I don't mind the walk but I had my kids with me and it's a PITA. Parking was more reasonable it sounds as I had to park on Sunday vs. hotel shuttle or walking. I parked close by for $10.

HQ - please find a venue with more seating, better food options (and more of them so you don't have to stand in line for 20 minutes to get something), and make the place within walking distance of hotels where the downtown area is more tourist friendly. If it goes down in Atlanta again, I won't be going back.

I've been thinking about these venue complaints.

Maybe HQ has chosen venues with small seating capacity to keep costs down. The real audience may be with online video production. They've certainly put a top-notch effort into that.

HQ is keeping the venues smaller to keep the atmosphere better.. there's a post or article or video on it somewhere as of a couple days ago.

They were talking about how some of the venues last year were half empty during events, even though there were a ton of people there. They would much rather the entire arena be packed and full of energy, then to appear half empty, even with the same number of people.

i am sorry but that is just stupid. i am not paying the money for tickets + gas + parking just so i have to stand the entire day and not be able to see anything because i have 5 rows of people in front of me.

every person i talked to that went to the Atlantic regional commented on how bad the experience was and how they will not go back next year.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Hmm. Sounds like they're trying to avoid some of the look of the NPGL Grid events - half empty stands make the sport seem unpopular.

Small venues seem to work for the Open workout announcements. They set up seating in a CrossFit affiliate with the scaffolding surrounding the athletes - it's like an MMA pit atmosphere.

For Regionals it may be a better choice to have a larger venue to accommodate more fans, but cordon off specific areas for seating - adapt the available seating based on how much of a crowd shows up.

While it may look good on camera, it is really a burn to the people who attend.
