overhead squat shoulder stability

Can anyone provide information on the mechanics of the shoulder muscles when doing an overhead squat? I've read that it works the rear delts, traps, stabilizers, etc. but exactly how much does the shoulder benefit from doing them? I'm just curious cause I haven't heard much talk about the upper body portion of the lift.

It's basically an isometric stabilization hold for the upper body. So it works the upper body much like the deadlift does for your back. A lot.

seconded on that steve, ive always had weaker shoulder action anything above parallel, but comes in ohs

the isometric upper body action doesnt just happen, you have to really focus on keepin your shoulders active. your rhomboids and rotator cuff muslces and traps also guide your shoulder blades through the motion.

Re: overhead squat shoulder stability

thanks, i just want to make sure in the long run my shoulders are getting more of a benefit from doing them than potentially risking injury.
