epididymitis and crossfit

just thought I'd share this.

I have been experiencing mild scrotal pressure over the last month and finally went to a urologist.

In the consult, he conducted an ultrasound and found out that there is some urine in the prostrate that's causing the problem.

He then asked if I do a lot of weightlifting....

turns out that when the bladder is not empty and you do high intensity 'core training', there is the potential that urine will 'leak into the prostrate' and this could cause the problem. He said that he occasionally sees this in weight lifters and construction workers.

his solution - make sure to empty your bladder before you do a lot of high intenstity training. The problem may take a while to go away ( a few months), but this should work..

we'll see if this simple change works.

turns out, i was doing the opposite....

Re: epididymitis and crossfit

Wouldn't urine in the prostate cause prostatitis, not epididymitis? The epididymis is on top of the testicles. If urine leaked into the epididymis, you'd really be doing something strenuous, since urine doesn't really get near the testicles.

Infection is the most common cause of Epididymitis.

Semantics aside, I sometimes get a dull ache in the nads after repeated sessions of heavy squats (i.e. starting strength, Starr's 5x5 etc.).

Re: epididymitis and crossfit

I think you're correct, - my general practice doc thought I had epididymitis, so that's what I thought I had.

I've already noticed the relief from relieving!

Re: epididymitis and crossfit

the dull ache in the nads, could also be caused by a cremaster strain. That's the muscle that pulls the boys in when it's cold. It tends to be chronic, especially with regular lifting. and of course various herniations are very troublesome as well.
