Running a CrossFit box as a hobby

Does anyone run a CrossFit box as a hobby or a second job ? Or does everyone run a box as their sole / main source of income ?

I believe you will find many that run it as a 2nd gig or a hobby.

I know of at least 2 in my area.

I don't know for sure what the future holds, of course, but I plan on running one as a part-time business / 2nd gig type deal. At least at first it will be.

Re: Running a CrossFit box as a hobby

I think there would be many affiliates doing this part time with hopes of maybe doing it full time someday. And I am sure there are many variables for each individual that determines this. If you are young and single with no family it might be easier, much different if you are married and have 4 children (2 in college like me) Would I love to give up my day job and do CrossFit fulltime? Hell yeah! But the income would not support our lifestyle. I would guess there are just a handful of affiliates making a comparable wage or income to a typical professional career in another field. But that said owning a CrossFit box and doing it full time for me is a goal, and definitely an achievable goal. It takes time to build a good business, like the saying goes “Rome was not built in a day”.

2nd gig here. Full-time would be a future goal but for now it is just a good time with great friends and a way to support my habit!

Re: Running a CrossFit box as a hobby

there's really not that many CF Affiliates that are run as a sole income for the owners. I'd say less than 30-40% of all affiliates.

That is an interesting statistic. I didn't know it was so low.

Hobby for me.

First comes family (wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 fish), work, my own training, completing my 'honey-do list.'

Same for me. I have a wife, 3 kids, with another on the way. My life right now needs my corporate income. Plus, I live in a small town of 600+ people. It would be hard to start a Box here .

But it would be great when the kids move out, I would actually have some free time!
