This is not necessarily correct - it depends what you have to scale. For 16.1, if you need to scale the 95# OH lunge, then yes your whole score would need to be scaled. But we had a few athletes that were fine with everything in this WOD except chest to bar pull-ups. So they did the WOD with regular pull-ups as their only scaling, got a great workout, and recorded a score of 18 Rx reps. This is perfectly acceptable.

It was a commercial / promotion from Airrosti. I can't seem to find a video link searching with my phone.

Those scores with the regular pullups were officially submitted as rx'd instead of scaled? I'm confused

Now I'm a fan of only scaling what you need to. However if you are one of those folks who wants to score higher then scale it all. Otherwise you doing the RC movement for some and scaled for others will cause your score to get crushed usually.

I judged a masters event at the obliteration fest in Houston one year and they could do pull-ups 10 or 15 jumping pull ups at no cost in rank. The "smart" guys who cared about positioning did jumping ones and won the overall while the "RX" guys who wanted to do it correctly because they could got smoked in the standings because of it. In my opinion one group cheesed out for positional ranking and winning even though they could do the movement "RX".

Absolutely, but the only reps that can be included on the scoresheet are the true Rx reps.

Example:
For 16.1, let's say an athlete can complete the 95# OH lunge and the burpees over bar with no problem. They just can't do chest to bar pull-ups. Said athlete really wants to get the best workout for himself he can while participating in the open, so he does 7 rounds and 3 reps of lunges on the WOD but does regular pull-ups instead of chest to bar. He can absolutely submit an RX score of 18 because he did 5 reps of lunges, 8 reps of burpees, and 5 reps of lunges before he reached the movement he could not complete Rx.

If the athlete in question couldn't do the OH lunge at 95# for even 5 feet, he would not be eligible to log any Rx score.

If the athlete in question could do the lunges but couldn't do the burpees as prescribed for some reason (such as not being able to jump that day due to injury) then they could log a 5. I have a friend who tore her Achilles a few months ago and just got to where the jump was doable for the burpee over bar recently, but has been fine with lunges for a while. If the Open had been a few weeks earlier this athlete might have had to take a score of 5.

I'm not arguing that a guy can't submit a RX score for 5 or 18 and not do C2b.

However since he was scaling the lunges it would be scaled and a 0 RX score.

I still feel people should RX as much as possible. I do agree with the ability for a low RX score and doing work. I support those who are willing to put in a low RX score with just a modified work load.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

Ok... with 16.1 almost over.. what do you want to see for 16.2

I would like to see something new... an EMOM C&J or something but with something inbetween like DU's to really f%Īk with us...

get as far as you can and when we are either done or not you get to do something else...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I feel like 16.2 will be a shorter one, like 7 minutes or something, with a pause and a max lift afterwards.

(....hoping for bench press....)

(....it'll never happen....)

This looks more like a training effort. The point of the Open is to do 5 weeks of brutal testing to see who is the best and the fittest.

This is the old training vs. testing thing.

Testing is not meant to be much fun.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

The live Open announcement for 16.2 is someone's Garage Gym. So I am thinking it is going to be couplet with minimal equipment.

My guess: Ascending weights of deadlifts & pistols.
