January 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'

In September, I joined a team for the Concept 2 Fall Rowing Challenge. I wanted to see if I could justify buying a rower; to see if I enjoyed it enough. Our team didn't win, not by a long shot, but I did rack up 130,000 metres in just under a month. All in all, I really enjoyed it.

Concept 2 has another challenge starting in January called the 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'. Virtual teams are created online, and its free. With this post I'd like to gauge interest in having a 'CrossFit Forum Team' open to anyone who frequents the boards. I can create the team, and we can update our progress via a thread in Competitions, as well as on the C2 web site.

More info can be gotten here W/F/S/
http://www.concept2cts.com/programmi...enges/jvct.asp

If you are or may be interested, please post here. If there's enough interest I'll go ahead.

I could be in. I was thinking of challenging myself to see if I could do a 5K for 30 days, and having to post your meters would only be extra motivation.

The fall rowing challenge was great motivation for me. Its kind of a kick to see the meters pile up, and if you keep the intensity reasonable, it wont interfere with the WOD. I think the key is a measured approach, not just rowing meters for the sake of rowing meters. I also like the idea of a team called 'CrossFit Discussion Board' for all the rowing world to see.

Re: January 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'

this sounds kind of interesting. my hold up is that i don't have a c2 and i would have to go to the globo everyday. maybe this challenge would give me a reason to invest in one.

That's what I was thinking Ted. I've gone to the local leisure centre to use theirs. Now I am ready to buy one, and with the next challenge, I'll be sure to use it regularly, not just when it comes up in the WOD.

Re: January 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'

the rower is one of my favorites to use as a warmup at the gym. it gives my whole body a good warm up. i'll even do single handed ones with a twist at the end to get a little extra warm up for the back.

i looked on craigslist today and didn't see any used ones. they go for like $1000 used? are there anythings to look for if you buy a used one? wear and tear?

I'm in! Wife is a former HS and club (after college) rower, so we have a C2 at home. Good motivation to get out of bed early and hit it!

Re: January 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'

I love this challenge, but I'll stay with my boat club on this challenge. About sixty rowers are waiting to produce some big numbers in January.

Re: January 'Virtual Rowing Challenge'

My club always does the Holiday Challenge: row 200k or 100k between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Breaks down into either 7407m or 3704m a day. I think I'll be too sick of erging to even think about another challenge in January.
