I did kettlebell swings for the first time today

As part of the "Nate" workout, I did kettlebell swings (actually, dumbell swings) with a 55 pound db.

I've never done them before, though I've seen them done on this site and other plenty of times. I didn't really know what to expect as far as how they feel.

I've got to say - WOW - talk about explosive and total-body-exhausting all at the same time. Those get the heart pumping fast. . . Awesome exercise. I'm disappointed I've never done them before. In college I played football, and these would have been an excellent exercise for any football player.

They are a lot of fun and will make the low back sore

If your lower back is sore, it means you need to tighten your core (abs) a whole lot more, especially at the top of the swing. This will become really important as you go heavier, or start swinging two at a time.

I use swings in almost all my warm-ups. They do a good job of it.

correct me if i am wrong, but wouldn't it be weird if an exercise that strengthened the posterior chain didnt make a part of the posterior chain (lower back) sore?

If you're well conditioned... no.

Re: I did kettlebell swings for the first time today

I thought it was a back exercise (KB swing)?

It's a full body exercise for me.

that's how i felt/feel, if not back, 'posterior chain', which certainly includes the lower back-and if you work these muscles, you can make them sore . . .
