Re: Differance between 5 and 7 points in skin fold test.
Hi, Andre. Body Fat % can be taken multiple ways. Since you're curious about differences in skinfolds, you'll need to consider age and gender before you review % differences. I'm an ISSA certified fitness trainer and CrossFit L1 Trainer. BF% via skinfold can be inconsistent, meaning different "measurement takers" are more likely to arrive at different skinfold sums on the same client. That said, here's the breakdown of how gender, age and skinfold sums affect BF%:
1. 21 y.o. Male
@skinfold sum(ss) =53, 14.31%
2. 55 y.o. Male
What you will find is, given the same skinfold sum, the older person arrives with the lower BF% (21 y.o. male @ss=60 > 55 y.o.m @ss=60 ). The same trend follows for females. For brevity's sake, I won't disclose the numbers here.
To answer your question about 5-7pts for one person, the numbers show around the range of 2% difference (for males). 5-7 points means 5-7mm gain/loss in skinfold which translates to a gain/loss of around 2% BF.
Nevertheless, use the numbers as a guide and focus on the true premise of CrossFit: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. The numbers will follow, if you improve your fitness.
