Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Alright I admit defeat. I've tried to get wordpress running and have failed. I have hosting through bluehost, and am using filezilla as my ftp, and I cannot for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to install all the wordpress folder. I tried installing it to the first folder the one with all the subfolders (notice my computer savvy?), and when I go to the example.com/wp-admin/install.php all I get is 404 page not found or whatever. I'm stuck, and have looked trough every help guide I could find without much clarification. Please help!

Update. I've made some progress, but now I'm getting a page that says wordpress is unable to establish a database connection.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Jeff,
Login to the bluehost control panel (cpanel). Scroll down to software/services and click on "Fantastico De Luxe". Then on the left side of the next page, look under "Blogs" and click on Wordpress. From there you should be able to click on New Installation in the box on the right hand side of the page. That will install and configure wordpress automatically and should get everything up and running correctly.

Thank you thank you thank you Derek! You just earned yourself a free t-shirt (when I get my affiliation approved and settle on the design)!

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hi,
I have been practicing with wordpress and so far so good, and with help here, have made progress, but now have discovered that it looks bad and content is missing in Internet Explorer while looking fine to me in Firefox. Any suggestions, I have seen a XHTML error finder? on the wordpress forum that seems to identify errors in the code itself? which I would have to manually repair, knowing nothing of the code. Is this my option? And if so where do I find the file to rewrite the code for each page.
Any help is appreciated,
sean

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

I just finished my new WP site. WP is badass. No monthly fees either.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

I'm having issues getting my site to look the way I want it to. I've tried different themes but I don't like things about all of them, and I can't change the things I want to without getting into html which I don't know. Any help on how to customize a theme, or design one from scratch? So far not liking wordpress. It's very confusing.
