Gotcha, thanks for the input Tim. I will proabably look into the alternative hosting rather than being stuck with the capabilites wordpress offers.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

I went ahead and hosted through wordpress mostly for cost savings as I didnt want to be stuck paying monthly for a website that makes nothing. However, I was thinking of putting adsense on my page and now I cannot as wordpress.com sites do not allow this option...wouldnt say I am regretting my decision, just weighing out what I lost in the process.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hello Fellow Crossfitters!

I am new to this site and relatively new to Crossfit. I am entering my sixth week as a crossfitter and I would say I am adequately obsessed. Over the past month and a half I have become good friends with not only my trainer but also with the other crossfit members. I can tell from reading through the forums that you are all aware of this wonderful sense of community and friendship that Crossfit offers.

My purpose for this post is that I am learning Crossfit at an affiliate that is fairly new and the trainer has asked me to assist him in getting a website up and running for our gym. Obviously an online presence is important and I really want to help support my trainer and help him get the word out so he can help more people.

Obviously I have a million questions. I am familiar with web design basics, but I am by no means an expert. I had a free wordpress blog in the past, so I am familiar with this platform, but I was reading though the FAQ and Iím under the impression that we need the wordpress.org paid version to house a Crossfit site. Am I correct?

Iím posting all of this here in the hopes that I can start appropriate conversations with knowledgeable people. I tried looking through past posts to find all my answers but I wanted to make sure that I was talking with current active members. If I should be posting anywhere else please feel free to point that out. Do most of you create and design your Crossfit sites yourselves? My trainer wants something simple, and I want to hand something over to him that he can easily update whenever he wants on his own.

I thank all of you in advance for any advice or help you can offer me. Iím excited to grow my presence in this amazing world of Crossfit through this online community. Feel free to private message me or get ahold of me however is easiest for you.

~ Adam

Here's a quick HTML script you can put where ever you want your journal link to go. It comes with an image and all!

Just use the code that Erik showed, go to "widgets" then drag a "text/html widget" into your side bar. It will open up for you, then paste that code in there, click "Save" and it should show on your page.

Just for the record, here's the page where all of the options for CF Journal badges are kept: http://journal.crossfit.com/badges.tpl

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Hi Everyone,

All links are W/F/S.

I just wanted to say that I've been following this thread for my "kettlebell" site, and everyone has provided such great input. Some of the posts have been super informative, thanks Adam, and everyone else.

I do want to give a plug for http://www.rxgymsoftware.com/ and to Mike who developed the solution. The RX Gym Software tool is super easy, and quite intuitive.

If you check out http://www.crossfit5280.com/ or http://www.crossfitoftheozarks.com/ you see two sites that are simple to follow, informative and easy to "configure".

I highly recommend that you check http://www.rxgymsoftware.com/ out.

Rich

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

I'm the logsitall.com guy - i've been working on a way to create a "single sign on solution" for wordpress and have a pretty buttoned up solution that allows anyone with a WP site to have their members register on this WP site and then click through to their customized logsitall site without having to register or sign in. This lets you drive all traffic to your own site - and also embed WOD's, rankings etc. easily. You keep the traffic - and logsitall essentially becomes another page on your own site.

If anyone is interested in more info - drop me a line at admin@logsitall.com or just visit the site.

So far the biggest user of the WP api is crossfit london who are aggressively using this to support their 2,000+ member base.
