The process shouldn't be destructive to your wordpress site.

All links in this post are work and family safe.
This post displayed my ignorance.

There's a whole section of the Drupal documentation on the site that covers this.

Re: Official Drupal Users Thread

Ok guys, I've installed Drupal, uploaded some themes and installed the ubercart module. As you can probably guess, I'm a little unsure of where to go next. I think at this point I have more questions now than I did before installing Drupal.

I should probably tackle these one at a time.
  1. What modules do you reccommend and which one's did you not find useful?
  2. How do you modify the banner, logo and footer to your theme?
  3. It appears that there is a forum already built into Drupal-is this one acceptable for use or is there a module you recommend?
  4. ...and last but not least, knowing what you know now, is there any advice you would give a Drupal noob like me?

A few I really like are phpmailer or smtp. Those are great for adding email functionality to the site. I use google apps for the email so it works perfect.

Advanced Forum is great also.

CCK
Chat
ARchive
IMCE
FCKEditor
Gallery Assist
Gallery ASsist Lighboxes
Lightbox
Simple Access
Advanced Forum
Mollom (this is a must to avoid be spamming your site.)
Login Destination
Month Archive
Path Auto
Poormanscron
Webform
Webform Block.

There are tons out there and almost always something for anything your trying to do.

This can be done in different ways, sometimes you can do it in the theme settings, otherwise you have to go most likely in the css or the page and add it there. (let me know what theme you are using and i can guide you in the right direction.)

I used the built in one for our and its worked fine. Getting permissions right is probablly the trickiest part.

Asking questions is your best bet, and when you install a new module read the instructions, ones like fckeditor can be trick to setup but once it is it is great. Youtube can be a great resource for Ubercart and those learn by the drop videos as well.

Thanks Jeff! I appreciate you help. I have Aquia Slate as the default theme with Fusion Core, Fusion Starter and Skinr enabled. I can't watch the youtube stuff currently because Flash is messed up on my computer . I'm picking up a new computer in a week or so and I'll check them out then.

I'll keep you posted on how i'm doing.

Re: Official Drupal Users Thread

Sounds good. Thats a good choice for a theme. Its made for ubercart if I remember correctly. Which could be in question after "Jackie" this morning. With that theme you should be able change your header in the theme setttings.

http://sitename.com/admin/build/themes/settings

That link should work if you are using clean url's.

Another thing I recommend is changing the administration theme. I use the root candy ones which are very nice and easier to navigate then the stock one.

http://drupal.org/project/rootcandy

Change it here

http://sitename.com/admin/settings/admin

There is also an administration menu module that is nice as well.

Do you download the developmental releases or the recommended releases?

Thanks!

I installed rootcandy and the admin appears to be more user friendly. I do have to say it does take some time to get used to navegating in Drupal.

I'm assuming you can set pages to have specific functions (i.e. blogs, forums, pictures, videos, store, etc...).

Re: Official Drupal Users Thread

Yeah when you go to "Create Content" it will give you those options, setup IMCE and fckeditor so you can insert pics and full html (learn by the drop has a good tutorial) then at the bottom you either have it publish to the front page or not.

So if you create a blog and publish it to the front page the newest content goes to the top then each user that can create a blog will have that there as well.

http://crossfitmountolympus.com/ the content here was published to the front page. Here is the blogs for different users, there only happens to be one on our site. http://crossfitmountolympus.com/blog/

The forums you setup with containers and then forums in the containers.

If you notice we have our forums

http://crossfitmountolympus.com/forum/

the the containers of personal logs, fitness forum, workouts to try, etc.

Now inside of pages, or blogs,or whatever you can have videos pics, flash whatever and that all comes back to how your info is input IE the fckeditor.

http://learnbythedrop.com/drop/27

Now if you want things like we have on our home page like the archives, try us, links, friends. Those go in blocks. Then you move that block to where you want it to show. From there you can also set if you want that to only show on certain pages.
