Squats vs. Deads

Hey,

I'm just wondering if anyone else has a huge discrepancy in their squat weight and deadlift weight.

My numbers are (approximate 1RM):

180, 6'2"
Squat: 255
Deadlift: 375
Power Clean: 215

As far as anatomy goes, I'm fairly long limbed. I go to or below parallel on my squats.

Thanks!

Re: Squats vs. Deads

That looks pretty typical. My most recent 1RM dead was 365#, and squat was 275#. I think I've seen one or two people post squats at or above their deadlift max, but that's the exception.

Re: Squats vs. Deads

Yep, that looks more normal than me, with squat at 220 (still very early in a lifting career!) and deads just past that at 240. Deads are normally quite a bit heavier than squats.

Re: Squats vs. Deads

Long limbs tend to favor deadlifts, and hinder squats and benching.
I'm in the same position. (DL around 340, Squat 250-260 or so)

Yup, squat 325, deadlift 450. Course I quit doing low bar squats too, so that's caused some getting used to.

Thanks!
recently i hit 390 on deads but only squat 260
so im the same
i think squat numbers get skewed all over the place because ROM is very different
i have maybe seen 5 people at my gym with a solid full squat
where as i have seen 100s of half and quarter

George- Why did you quit low bar squats?

I think the SS wiki talks a lot about how its normal for dead to be higher than BS.

Re: Squats vs. Deads

I'm at a 335 lb squat and 395 lb deadlift. No long limbs for me with my 5'9" frame. I would be very surprised if a person was to work just one of the two for a while and not see the other go up as well. I think that one rubs the other's back for sure.

Not sure I agree with that. Could you please explain?

Re: Squats vs. Deads

Such a big discrepancy is usually due to high volume of deadlift work and fairly low volume of heavy back squat work in CF. Or quite possibly to lack of squatting technique.

A 300/400 or 250/315 would be about a right ratio between Squat and DL, but a 100+ lbs difference when you're not talking 400+ squat yet - that's not really normal.
