I'm relocating from Phoenix to Juneau, AK and I was hoping to hear from CF'rs from that area. Maybe we'll create the first CF Affiliate in AK?!?

Hi Thomas, welcome to CrossFit!

I'm going to move this post to the "Community" section, where we keep messages from CrossFitters looking to connect up.

Hope there's someone up there!

Re: Alaska Crossfitters

Hey Christian, took me forever to get up here so I missed your post. I met several from Sitka and one from Fairbanks. There's a few Coast Guard members that want to get one started. Do you have anyone certified up there? How hard has getting equipment been? I brought up as much stuff as I could (mats, power towers, oly bars and weights). There's a walmart and costco here though so I think we may be in business.

Re: Alaska Crossfitters

We are using a combination of globogym (bayclub) and High School facilities (weight room, mat room, and track). We do crossfit wherever we can. It is next to infeasible to get Kettle bells up here. The shipping is more than the KB. I'm going down to CA in a month and plan to bring back one and medicine ball. in my luggage. How is Sitka. are you USCG?

Re: Alaska Crossfitters

Fellow Alaskans,
I have been a crossfitter since the summer of 2005. I will never forget that first workout and have been in love with it ever since. I use any equipment I can either make or get my hands on, and agree with the almost impossibility financially of getting ahold of some equipment. I am a life long Alaskan, and recently moved to Palmer, after living in Sterling for 16 years off and on. Good to know there are other Alaskan's who have "drank the Kool Aid. There isn't a better fitness program around that addresses an Alaskan lifestyle, completely.

Re: Alaska Crossfitters

Wow, it is cool to see that there are other Alaskans. I'm sure there's plenty more. I'm from Kodiak but have been living in Soldotna the last few years. I grew up running cross country and got turned onto Crossfit this past April. Greatest thing since sliced bread. Crossfit has already bailed me out of one jam since I started. Was enough to sell me on it forever. Being strong is awesome.

Re: Alaska Crossfitters

I've seen Fairbanks, Juneau, Homer, Soldotna, Palmer, and Sitka...that's great. There must be more of us out there. Anyone out there in the Anchoreage area? I just recently moved back to Anchorage from the Portland, OR area. Got the CF bug in the last couple years and getting re-started now that I am back in AK. I would think there should be enough of us t0 get something going in Anchorage. Any other Anchorage area CF'ers out there?
