Know of any Krav Maga instructors near Roanoke VA? This area (SW Virginia)has a dearth of martial versatility, wondering I could get some suggestions from the forum.

Here you go Jason. These should give you a little more regional ideas.

Wow, after doing a map search, my best advice is to call the Richmond facility. They are probably geographically the closest to you(within a 2 hours drive). I am originally from DC but you live in what I use to call the uncharted territories. You are practically kissing the North Carolina border. Jamilla, Tom Brose or Allen Yeh might be able to help, their from the DC/Va area.
Good luck and keep me posted on what you find out.

Yeah, apparently running water is the new fad down here, Krav Maga is probably 10 years away...

Jason, I go to school at VT in Blacksburg. I'm 45 minutes away from you in Roanoke. I've been looking for a place as well.

I've been searching for a while but have come up empty. There is an MMA place in Christiansburg though.

Ummm, Jason, just a thought, and it all depends on what you are looking for, but did you try looking in the Salem area? Here is one school you can look at. http://www.kempovirginia.com/
It is only 25 minutes away from Roanoke where as Christianburg is twice the distance.
Otherwise check out this site. I do know that Salem is a well known Va. area and the Salem area is peppered with a lot of other good schools. http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=&q=martial+arts+schools&near=Salem,+ VA+24153 &sa=X&oi=local&ct=title

It all depends on what you are looking for and how you set up your search. Let me know if this helps. You have peaked my interest and I now find your dilema intriguing.

Peter-

I actually live closer to Christiansburg, although Salem is not out of the question. I am having a dilemma about applicability of martial arts to actual combat situations. Example scenario- primary weapon empty, secondary weapon jams, I have to resort to hand to hand with someone of equal or greater power than myself. I primarily subscribe to the gun-fu method of martial arts, i.e. the first one with a weapon or a buddy with a weapon wins... I digress. At this time, the Army uses a BJJ model for their combatives, but I am having problems with the ground oriented focus, I would prefer to stay on my feet given the weight of vests, ammo and the such. That is what has drawn me to Krav Maga, but I would like to actually see it in live action first.

Thanks for the support Peter, it's not everyday someone is intruiged by the backwoods!
