Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I PR'ed on Fran today, but right before I did, someone came up to ask for technique tips on the muscle-up (I did a few on a bar for warmup).

As for the neck training (and this has come up a couple of times), it's very useful (though goofy looking). Try this. Sit on your back with your head elevated. Now, without moving your shoulders, twist your head in a controlled manner left and right for, say, 40 reps. Then tilt your head forward and backward, again in a controlled manner, for 40 reps (40 reps being a full rotation of the head from one side to the other- don't touch your head to the floor).

Feel a serious burn/clenching in the musculature of your neck? That was for a slow/controlled movement. Now imagine the kind of forces a boxer goes through when he takes a jab. If you don't have strength there, you're done.

Now that's what I'm sayin'

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Every day this week I come in and this guy is doing bench presses. I nicknamed him "Mr. Bluster" early on because of all the funny noises he makes while working out (way beyond normal).

Anyway this morning I finished with my workout and was sitting on a bench drenched in sweat facing his direction so I happened to pay attention to what he was doing.

1. Using an incline bench.

2. 2/3 range of motion - bar not even close to chest.

3. Bridging his hips to the very top of the seat at the bottom, effectively making his "incline press" a flat bench press.

A 2/3 ROM flat bench press on an incline bench. Too funny.

In fact, he never gets full ROM on anything he does.

It's 40 minutes. 15 seconds on 15 seconds off. I don't actually count 80 sets.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Our local news station is doing a 12 week segment of one of their employees getting in shape at the local globo. (To his credit he's lost 26 pounds in 10 weeks) I've found out through the grapevine that the gym is paying the news station to do this... which seems ethically dubious to me but I'm not a journalist.

Anyway, I found these pictures on the blog for this segment. Thought you guys would like them.

A weighted vest with squats in the Smith machine (with no weight on the bar)... and a weighted vest on the Leg Press? It's a miracle he isn't wearing gloves.

Obviously to increase the damage when you decided to headbutt someone when they are not looking....

I mean that is the reason I do neck curls
