I'd like to see the CFT made random. Maybe 1 type of squat or pull from the ground, 1 press, and 1 pull all chosen randomly. I'd also weight the exercises so they all counted for roughly the same percentage.
Bumping an old and interesting thread.

Something like this, random selection of exercises with equal weights would be simple enough to accomplish. Also, if you would want to weight the exercises differently, that is do-able.

Re: An even more random Games?

I think that some of the strongman events modified to be even worse (log flipping with wooden logs). What about load that truck, then have to push it because it won't start 50m. Sounds silly, but I had to do that once in college after I loaded a truck then had to push it to a gas station.

For each competitor:

Split a cord of wood.
Wheelbarrow it 50 m to truck.
Load it into pickup truck.
Push truck 400 m.

You're toast, and . . . someone has 20 cords of wood ready for the winter.

Re: An even more random Games?

judging by the amount of people that's gonna compete at the games, i bet we'd chop down an entire forest

Re: An even more random Games?

I completely agree and am sure the people designing the games agree also.

The problem is executing such a competition efficiently for hundreds of competitors.

It's a cinch to throw down a bunch of bars and plates and requires very little room for lots of people to throw around. Doing even short course relays or obstacle courses would require thousands of square meters of area to accomodate all those competitors and/or numerous heats. Plus the more interesting random events would require serious setup and/or investment.

We could come up with some great events that would still work without being difficult to execute, but you've just done what you set out to avoid: limiting the number and types of events.

Competition is a good but always, even day to day, inaccurate reflection of ability.

Re: An even more random Games?

How about, throw this shotput, run to it, do 25 burpees, throw it again. Complete for a mile. That way its still CrossFit but includes another type of event that we aren't totally used to.

I think the games would be silly if it was Do 5 135# C&Js, throw darts and count total repeat 5x. I mean.. just no.

Also, equipment concerns have to be kept in mind. Any bike race you'd have to have a standard bike available to the competitors that is all tuned fairly equal. Maybe Trek would sponsor or something.. but still. Same with any kind of a paddling event (nonetheless being near where there is water).

If they had the money.. putting up a killer obstacle course would be awesome though.
