Re: Iron Cross critique

Tuck,

As I stated my expectation is that there was a lot more there than shown in the video. As always, keeping it legit. I just want everyone who sees these videos to be aware not to just go out and jump on this stuff. We see far too much of that as it is.

Question Re: Iron Cross critique

I need help with the back lever and how to train for it. My upper body has no idea what my lower body is doing...

Re: Iron Cross critique

Tuck, the only problem is that Steven and I noted only about 2 people were what we could consider strong enough to be bothering with working on any cross progressions. One, was one of the first guys, the other was maybe the last guy. Many did not show even the ability to correctly support themselves.

Maybe there were a few others who would be strong enough, imo, to start those progressions but in all honesty, I would probably never even talk about Iron Crosses to most CF'ers. However, I tend to be super uppity and anal about this and I get hampered nearly every day during rings by one of my boys about "what if I could do an Iron Cross" with the retort being "how badly do you want to get kicked out of practice after more burpees to make you throw up".

However, in a seminar like that besides Adult Gymnastics classes, many people are there to learn the cool stuff. So, basically you have to field the request, regardless. That is why recently I got out of coaching adult gymnastics and handed it over to another coach.

Re: Iron Cross critique

Tuck -- my only problem (given my lack of knowledge of what you guys actually taught) was this:

If I seen bent arms when someone is training a cross that tell me that they're not ready for the progression ESPECIALLY if they're not even getting far down in the cross.

Whether or not you taught proper safety or not is not my concern here. My guys who do have solid back levers and are very close to front lever even still have problems with working cross with proper joint preparation.

Basically, bent arms in the movement tells me that it's dangerous for the user to be training it. That's my major qualm.

Steve, Blaire, - Guys - I get it.... But good lord, it was a first attempt with a scale,,, you will have strength issues which is why they had an extra spot with the scale and,,, we called out bent arms as well on those who bent em... and speak to all your issues...

Bent arms might also tell you that they dont know yet to lock em out properly or that they are even bending them while they move... Funny thing is as you call folks out on missed cues - they try and correct it...

And for the record - not everyone even trys an IC at the certs, or planche progressions, or MU's - for various reasons like strength, form issues, previous injuries, etc...

Its all good!
