The food pyramid may be flawed but it is based on good science.

my wife had this done and she found out her and her father share a genetic condition that predisposes one to faster artery clogging.

This was before we found paleo. I'm planning on having her tested again in a months of loosing the grains and processed foods and see where her numbers are, hopefully to get her off the cholesterol medication.

Frank,

I didn't claim to be an RD, you assumed that I was. If by pointing out that your assumption was erroneous I have damaged my credibility in some way then so be it. If I cared about such things I would have let your post stand uncorrected.

It is? Then why is it flawed? How "good" is the science it is based on?

The food pyramid is flawed because it doesn't differentiate between natural unprocessed whole foods and highly processed foods thereby allowing the food industry to claim that highly processed energy dense nutrient poor foods can be eaten as part of a healthy diet.

It's based on decades of good evidence based peer reviewed science all pointing to a simple blindingly obvious conclusion, perhaps best expressed by Michael Pollan; "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."
