New CF'er from Indy here!

Hey all,

From Indianapolis here (Fishers really). A coworker turned me on to crossfit and I did my first scaled WOD last night. I was working up a sweat and loved it!

I've been lifting and running on and off for the past 3 or 4 years and have just started training to run my 4th half-marathon in May. I think crossfit will
definitely help me build my endurance and strength and the constant change will keep me coming back for more.

I hope to learn alot here!

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, nice to see you here! I also will be doing the Indy Mini in May! It will only be my 2nd half marathon, and I'm really excited about it.

Thanks for the info Jamie!

So my dumb newb question would be: What is the difference between a "crossfit gym" and a standard gym? I'm a member of LA Fitness right now and was a member of LifeTime Fitness before. Do crossfit gyms have memberships?

Eh, what's the difference? You won't find any Nautilus machines in a CF Gym. You also won't find mirrors or muscle bound gym rats doing curls all day. Things you will probably find: Olympic weights, gymnastic rings, ropes, C2 Rowers, boxes, and other equipment necessary to do CF WOD's.

Here are all the Indy affiliates. I highly encourage you to check them out.

http://crossfitindynorth.com/
http://indycrossfit.com/
http://titanfit.com/
http://www.blastfitindy.com/
http://forgedfit.com/

(all WFS)

Check out their websites. I think all of them offer free intros for new guys. Hopefully you can find one close to you that you like because there are so many benefits to working out at a good affiliate. You will benefit from the coaching you will recieve there, being able to use all the equipment (Does your gym have rings so you can do ring dips and muscle ups?), and the community.

Unfortunately there's no affiliates out here in Terre Haute. If I were going to be here for more than 6 months I would definitely consider starting one after I get my level I cert next month.

Greg,

First off, Welcome! I live in Noblesville and would highly encourage you to check out Indy CrossFit North, it is probably the closest to you and they offer FREE workouts on Saturday mornings along with great training. Check out the site and feel free to hit me up on a PM.

Re: New CF'er from Indy here!

Hey guys! I guess I should introduce myself here- long time reader, just never got around to posting. My name's Blake and I live in Indy as well. I've been doing CF out of the globo gym for a while now. I would love to get to one of the local affiliates sometime as well, especially since I'm not too far from a couple of them.

I also recently signed up to run the Indy Mini Marathon in May! It will be my first one and I'm pretty excited about it. I love doing CF and it's great to see that the CF community is growing here in Indianapolis!
