Why are my squat weights so low?

I one-month new to crossfit, and all of my weights and abilities are terrible but even among them my squat weights are horrendous. They seem out of balance with the rest of my scores.

When we do air squats, I got to 12", which is below parallel, and always do the full number rx'd. I concentrate on form and keep my heels on the ground, head up, lumbar curved. But add a little weight and I can't move.

I am a 38 yr old, 195# man. Doing crossfit total today for the first time, my 1RM on the squat was 132.5#. My DL was 232.5# and my shoulder press was 102.5. Those aren't good, but regardless, shouldn't I be able to squat more than 30# more than I can shoulder press? Shouldn't my squat be more than 60% of my deadlift? Or is that normal?

Any insight at all would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm guessing that you have never before squatted that low with weights. It's perfectly natural, when you put your body into a new ROM, for your weights to be low. The muscle has to develop and the brain needs to wire the circuits for that ROM. Just keep on training and the weights will come.

If you are learning the squat correctly and have never lifted before don't sweat it. Your numbers will come up, just keep at it with good form.

In a totally non-trained person the DL should be lots higher IMO. Most people's squat will come up to 70-80% of DL after a while.

Most gym goers squats are 1/4 squats so they can "squat a lot", don't do that!

Look at your progress right now, don't compare! Build a healthy base, you have the rest of your life to get your squat up.

You can also do several programs to up your squat if you chose to work extra hard on it SS, ME black box, hatch squat program etc.

Don't stress just work hard and use good form.
