14.3 barefoot?

Has anyone tried doing 14.3 barefoot? I usually prefer to deadlift in just socks, so I thought about giving this a try when I redo it tonight. Another thought was to try in my Vibrams. I did it Saturday in Nanos and my score was decent, but not quite where I want it to be.

My only concern is possibly slipping in my socks stepping up on the box (haven't tried it; have no idea if it could/would be an issue).

Re: 14.3 barefoot?

If you're planning on stepping, then that might be doable. I forgot my shoes one day that we were doing a similar wod - DL's, push-ups, box jumps. Let me tell you - jumping on the box barefoot (or even in socks) is no fun.

And if you already have a score for 14.3 - why not just try it? You have a few hours left.

Re: 14.3 barefoot?

I did my effort in my vibrams
Did the box as jumps as didn't realise you could step
Scored 110 which while not great I feel is respectable for only 6 months of crossfitting
And had no problems
Ive done all my open wods, and in fact all workouts in my vibrams- was considering buying some nanos or more so some inov8 lifters but not sure!
Would recommend getting some instead of my vibrams?

When I first started CrossFit about a year ago, I used Vibrams for everything. Now that I have a pair of Nanos, I really prefer those for almost everything. The keyword being "almost". If I'm deadlifting just for skill/strength work, and not in wod, I would much rather go barefoot.

Re: 14.3 barefoot?

I used powerlifting style deadlift slippers, as close to barefoot as possible but still had grip. Stepped up each time, would recommend. But I am used to dling like this.

I couldn't make up my mind. So I did it with one shoe on and one shoe off. Worked really well.

I took the pumice stone to my heels until they bled, pretty sure I cut a quarter inch of my ROM.

Re: 14.3 barefoot?

Ended up doing it in just socks and didn't have any trouble. The deadlifts felt a lot more comfortable, but I could tell I wasn't fully recovered from doing in Saturday. Still got a two rep improvement, and 15 seconds better on my box jump split, but the 275# round got heavy real fast and I only got 24 reps in 3:46. Looking forward to trying this one again some time after the Open is over and pushing for 130+.
