What Bryan said. Read the label. Decide if you want the stuff on the label in your body. "Sausage" covers such a huge range of products that it's really not possible to generalize.

Agreed! According to some paleo guidelines, sausage should be avoided because you can't control the fat or salt content. However, you certainly can if you make your own. Michael Symon's book, "Live to Cook" teaches you how to make your own sausage and bacon. There are several other paleo cookbooks out there that use sausages. If you're eating prepacked, just read the labels and try to get as natural as you can. And eat in moderation.

As I was eating my regular egg, spinach, and sausage scramble this morning I was wondering this same thing. After looking into the sausage I was eating it contained MSG. I found quite a bit of information linking MSG to obsesity, diabetes, etc. Probably wont be finishing the rest of it.

I agree with the other posts as well though, just like other meats if it's from a natural source and you know whats in it then go for it.

As usual I'm with Katherine on this...

If you are doing a Whole30 or other Paleo challenge that is a short term cleanup of your diet, sausage probably isn't effective to your goals, you should probably stick with single ingredient foods (ground beef is a nice replacement for sausage). If on the other hand you are just living your life healthfully, some sausage (like some bacon) is not going to completely derail your health.
