Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

Grease the Groove and Recovery

So I don't have access to any facilities for six weeks, and I thought I'd try grease the groove for pullups and pushups (I have a good over door pullup bar)

The articles I read don't say much about recovery days. Should I do this every day, alternate pull/push days, or is it just a "listen to your body thing"?

my plan was to set a timer on my phone and alternate pushups one hour, pullups the next hour, for 8-10 hours a day that I'm at work. Do this M-F, take Sat Sun off.

Or, I could alternate days I guess...but the sites I've read don't explicitly say to do this so I don't want to YNDTP and alternate when I shoudln't be (e.g. the daily stimulus is part of the benefit of grease the groove)

You should be able to do both every day.

5 on, 1 off, retest 7th day, repeat with new higher numbers.

Should work very well.
