I think the steroids comment had more to do with how lean and ripped some female CrossFitters are than with how much weight they're lifting. And they're probably right, there probably are some people doing CrossFit, male and female, who're using.

I think they're right on this one; people with pre-existing injuries, particularly back injuries, should think carefully before doing CrossFit.
