When I was a kid we had crossfit...

... we just didn't call it that
40m sprint x 15-20 rounds was called Red Rover.
Rope climbs were called Getting up to the Treehouse
LSD exercise was called Riding My Bike To Where I Was Going
Farmer's Walks were known as Take 4 Buckets of Feed to the Cows
Mobility Work was Getting Your Arm Twisted by the Neighbor Kid
Cleans and Push Presses were called Loading Hay
Heavy Deadlifts were called Loading Wet Hay
Squatting was Putting Another Kid on your Shoulders to Play Chicken
We meditated too, we called it "fishing"

Anyone else Crossfit as a kid?

Re: When I was a kid we had crossfit...

You forgot Kettlebell swings...

Chopping the firewood.

More deadlifts...

Loading the freshly cut sections of tree trunks onto the farm truck to transport home for more Kettlebell swings.

Firemans carry...

Tying a freshly gutted deer's legs onto a stick, slinging it onto your back and walking it out of the woods to the nearest road.

We just drag them, a la sled pulls! Sometimes not an easy task in the Ozark Mtns!

I wish I had grown up on a farm. I'd be stronger now.

Re: When I was a kid we had crossfit...

-sled pushes involved a lawn mower and 4 acres
-sled drags involved said mower out of gas
-raking said grass after it was mowed
-my dad sold brick and kept a lot of samples at home, so there was a lot of moving those around
-sprints aka chasing my little brother

Re: When I was a kid we had crossfit...

- bar muscle up over fence to get ball/escape dog/short cut home
- forward rolls when chain on bike came off sprocket/snapped
- overhead carry; whatever you wanted to keep dry getting across stream
- snatch (or C&J), to get bike over fence
- when older, lots of pushing cars (jump starts, to gas station, broken down etc)

Skin-the-cats on the playground bars so you could hook your knees, hang upside down, then swing to flip off.....

Monkey bars....

Swings...the beginnings of a kip...
