Katherine I was pointing you with a stick.
Sometimes I think you need to take serious vacation from the interwebs,

It's serious measure above common sense to shop around for both product , seller and service on ANYTHING.

Sorry, I probably need a vacation too.

Sadly, common sense is not so common...

But my real point was to do the vetting *before* you have your fiancée along with you.

Best wishes to you both,

Katherine

Interesting advice. That hadn't occurred to me, but could be nice for her. We did our shopping around together.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

I thought this thread was going to be about Pokemon games, and you were asking whether to start with Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Sapphire or Pokemon Diamond. My answer was going to be Pokemon Diamond.

Without having read the whole thread though (only the first post), I'm going to have to say that a princess-cut diamond is what most girls dream about.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

The world diamond market is definitely a concern. Have you thought about estate jewelry? It's true that "Diamonds are forever." Even an expert can't tell if a diamond is new or if it was cut a hundred years ago. If used diamonds are on the market, why contribute to the problem by buying new?

To both questions, the only person who matters is the recipient.

My wife's engagement ring was $200 at sears. 5 blue sapphire flower petals with a clear sapphire in the middle and a row of I think 9 small clear sapphires below, set in an intricate 10 carot white gold band. The sapphires aren't even natural (lab-made).

Cheap? Cheezy? People can say so if they want, but she picked it out, and 5 years later she still loves it. And I'll add still gets compliments on it out of the blue from strangers. If she had wanted a diamond I'd have bought one.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

Get a super simple inexpensive band, or a plastic toy ring, or a hello kitty ring if she likes cats, or tie a string around her finger and make it as part of a special proposal that you know she will love....then go chose a ring together after she says yes is my vote. She's going to wear that ring everyday for the rest of her life, it's only kind to make sure it's one she actually likes.
