When I started at Mad City CrossFit, they did teach us how to dump the barbell. We practiced at light weights so the coaches could see that we knew what to do to fail properly. We also practiced spotting. This was part of the intro class before we ever had a heavy day trying for a one rep max. I think they did a great job with this.
