I'll second Gant on McGuinness being a fantastic rugby name. I'm also a college rugger, and I started CrossFit to train for the fall season about eight weeks ago. So far so good, I've made some real good progress.
Depending on position, you'll want to modify the WOD a little bit. I'm a forward, so I have been doing the ME Black Box format of CF. I'm also incorporating more short distance field sprints and shuttle runs, things you don't see in any WOD but that are important for rugby.
Try joining a mens' league for the summer if you have the time and you aren't burnt out by the WOD. You can learn a lot from guys that have been playing forever.
