What you describe is very common. One thing that can happen is that you develop poor recruitment patterns, overworking your upper traps and until you work to break that pattern. If that is the case it is usually a pretty simple fix, but may be a little difficult to describe on the forum. You will need to stand in front of a mirror making sure you are standing with good posture. pull your shoulder blades down and toward your spine. Holding them in that position as long as you can you are going to raise your arm straight out in front of you. You will want to do around 100 reps, or until failure several times a day.
