Interestingly, the technical term for what Dr. Steven Devor and Dr. Michael Smith did in their now-infamous CrossFit study is known as "Scientific misconduct." Wikipedia defines this as "....the violation of the standard codes of scholarly conduct and ethical behavior in professional scientific research."
It also turns out this is painfully common. The Scientist has actually dedicated a blog to examples of such misconduct. I wonder if Devor will make their next top-10 list.
It is also appears that publicly criticizing papers makes it far more likely they will be retracted. We can only hope in this case. http://www.nature.com/news/publicly-...racted-1.14979
