My 2 on this subject.... CrossFitters vs Decathletes
In my younger days i was an elite decathlete and preperation for 10 events is very different. As a decathlete you actually know what you are going to do and in what order which makes planning easier. You are also aware of your weak points.
CF, be prepared for everything and get as good as possible for everything.
Fundamentals are to get strong and fast.
Back in the day we did no ohly lifting... we never need it but we used barbells for other strength. We did other alternative exercises to help us run fast, jump high and throw far.
But when it comes to it, both are versatile and have the same mind set and are as stubborn as hell. A decathlete won't give up either.
So it all depends on what you throw at them.
